Today my son and I went to my supplier to pick up some more Cuban mahogany boards to cut sets from. This is the trailer full of the stuff. It has been sitting here since 1990 when it was shipped up from St. Croix Here is a bed made from Cuban mahogany built by my supplier. This is the bookmatched solid crotch headboard. |

Mmmm.....nice! I wish I had more money right now, and that I had space for even a single set of back and sides (I've got a bit of space for tops left, but that's reserved) because that's mighty tempting! Also, am I the only one who sees fine cabinetry and just thinks 'what a waste! Think of all the guitars that could have been turned into!'? No? Just me? |

I just saw tons of "Cuban" mahogany in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It grows there on the island of Hispaniola, too. Rich chocolate brown, very dense, and a beautiful chatoyance to it. I'll be going back down there and I'll check out getting quartersawn sets and neck blanks. |
